What insurance do I need?
Where is your build at now?
Self-build insurance has to be in place before work starts, so this tells us how soon you need it.
Roughly when will work on site start?
Building insurance should start on the first day of work, not the day the first payment arrives.
What are you building?
Work on a house you already own needs that house covered while the work goes on.
Who will run the building work?
Whoever runs the site normally insures the work. A shell is the structure, usually walls and roof; agree the exact work with your builder.
Will you pay any tradespeople or buy materials yourself?
People you pay directly can count as your employees, and anything you buy has to be in the amount insured.
Is a lender paying for the build in stages?
Lenders set insurance conditions that must be met before they release the first payment.
Your insurance checklist
A broker checks what applies to your build, finds the cover and confirms the start dates. Several types of cover can sit in one policy.
The count is for the quote list below. Other things to check, after the form, may identify other cover you need.
Thanks, we have your request
It helps to have your planning permission reference, build start date and estimated build cost to hand when they call.
